50th Powell Street Festival 2026 in Vancouver

The 50th Powell Street Festival returns August 1–2, 2026 to Oppenheimer Park and surrounding Paueru Gai, centered on the 400 block of Powell Street between Dunlevy and Jackson. Expect Japanese Canadian arts programming, food vendors, community booths, indoor shows at neighbouring venues, and the neighborhood matsuri energy that made this festival a Vancouver landmark. Organizers expect about 20,000 people over the weekend; food lines run long and parking is tight.

Programming also uses Firehall Arts Centre (280 E Cordova), Vancouver Buddhist Temple (220 Jackson), and Vancouver Japanese Language School (487 Alexander). Free drinking water and bike valet are on-site; no alcohol is served. Ambassadors in blue happi vests and hospitality volunteers in orange hachimaki can help with wayfinding and safety.

Transit is the easy move: #7 or #209 buses to the site, or a roughly 20-minute walk from Main Street–Science World, Stadium–Chinatown, or Waterfront SkyTrain. Pair the weekend with BMO Vancouver Chinatown Festival the week before if you are stacking Lower Mainland street festivals.

Our take

Fiftieth year is the excuse to finally do Powell Street properly. Arrive by transit, bring a water bottle, and treat the park stages as the main course rather than racing every indoor venue. If heat or crowds spike, the Buddhist Temple and Language School blocks give you shade without leaving Paueru Gai.
