BAPS Chopda Pujan 2026 on Diwali in Mather

BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Sacramento holds Chopda Pujan on Diwali, Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Bring account books or a laptop if you want them included.

Mather, California · 10548 Armstrong Avenue

BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Sacramento lists Chopda Pujan for Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. That Sunday is Diwali. The mandir is at 10548 Armstrong Avenue in Mather, the same address as the Annakut the weekend before.

Chopda Pujan is the blessing of the books. The page invites adults to bring conventional account books, ledgers, and checkbooks, and also laptops, tablets, and phones. Children have a parallel Sharda Pujan. You are not dropping in for a food court. You are bringing the thing you want blessed and staying for the vidhi.

The listing does not print a ticket price. Treat it like the mandir's other posted darshan unless the door says otherwise. Annakutotsav on November 1 is noon to 5:00 p.m., with the Annakut display, food stalls, and a carnival. That is the big public afternoon. November 8 is the quieter religious hour on the day itself.

The same BAPS calendar lists Hindu New Year darshan on Tuesday, November 10. Morning arti is at 7:15 a.m. Evening thal singing is at 6:30 p.m., arti at 7:00, and a sneh milan with mahaprasad at 7:20. That Tuesday is a separate visit. Do not fold it into Sunday's two hours.

Who this is for: families who keep the books ritual, and anyone who wants to be at the mandir on Diwali night rather than at a Saturday preview. Diwali at the Capitol is Thursday, November 5, on the west steps, free, with a program at 2:30. That one is civic and outdoors. This one is indoors, at dusk, and you bring a laptop if that is the book you actually use.

Mather is east of downtown Sacramento, off the highway grid near the old airfield. Armstrong Avenue is not a walk from a light-rail stop you would choose on a Sunday night. Drive, or share a ride, and give the parking lot a few extra minutes at 6:00.

Our take: go at 6:00 with whatever you want included in the pujan, including the phone. Save Tuesday the 10th if New Year darshan matters in your house. The Capitol steps are the afternoon for people who will not make it out to Mather.

When: November 8, 2026, 6:00–8:00 p.m. (no ticket price listed)
Where: BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, 10548 Armstrong Avenue, Mather, CA

Velveting, explained as a Chinese kitchen technique

Velveting is the Chinese prep step that keeps stir-fry chicken and shrimp tender instead of rubbery: a cornstarch-and-oil coat, a rest, then a quick par-cook before the wok. Here is how it works and why diaspora cooks are finally seeing the name match the method.
