The City of Johns Creek lists its Diwali Celebration for Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Boardwalk at Town Center. Admission is free.

The city events calendar describes a large market with food and retail vendors and entertainment through the evening. Older neighborhood blogs floated a 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. window. The live city pages we checked list 4:00 to 8:00. Recheck johnscreekga.gov the week of November 3 if you are timing dinner around the market.

Johns Creek has treated Diwali as a municipal calendar date rather than a rented-hall one-off. Local coverage has described earlier editions as among Georgia’s first city-sponsored Diwali nights, and the festival has grown enough that organizers have had to manage crowd pressure. In 2026 it lands on The Boardwalk, the roughly 20-acre amphitheater and trail park that opened beside City Hall in May 2026, with terraced seating and a stage deck over the water.

Who this is for: North Fulton and Johns Creek families who want a free civic Diwali market the Saturday before Lakshmi Puja on November 8. Skip it if you need a locked hour-by-hour artist grid weeks ahead. The city has not posted a minute-by-minute stage card yet.

The same Saturday, Diwali in Dunwoody runs 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Dunwoody Nature Center with a ticketed arts-and-storytelling frame. A Boardwalk market plus Dunwoody evening is possible only if parking and traffic cooperate. Most groups should pick one. Global Mela at Global Mall is the free shopping weekend two weeks earlier. Norcross International Night Market shares the November 6–7 Gwinnett stack if you want night-market food stalls over a city amphitheater.

The Boardwalk pedestrian address is 11362 Lakefield Drive, behind City Hall at 11360 Lakefield. Town Center guidance points public and ADA parking to the City Hall lot, with park access on the path left of the front entrance. Other Boardwalk events have also opened overflow lots along Lakefield and Johns Creek Parkway when City Hall fills. Bring a layer for a November outdoor stage. City hall main line is (678) 512-3200.

Our take: put it on the calendar if you live north of the Perimeter and want the free city market edition. Arrive near 4:00 if you want vendor space before the dinner rush, and do not mix Newtown Park concert parking into this address.

When: November 7, 2026, 4:00–8:00 p.m.

Velveting, explained as a Chinese kitchen technique

Velveting is the Chinese prep step that keeps stir-fry chicken and shrimp tender instead of rubbery: a cornstarch-and-oil coat, a rest, then a quick par-cook before the wok. Here is how it works and why diaspora cooks are finally seeing the name match the method.
