Hsu Kuang-han’s year after Nantou is the rising story
Hsu Kuang-han left Nantou substitute service in August 2025 and walked straight into Measure in Love, a Cheng Wei-hao crime series, and a Taipei Golden Disc mic. Japan just got the romance under a new title. The Marvel rumor can wait.

Hsu Kuang-han walked out of Nantou’s conscription office on August 6, 2025, in black from hat to shoes. He told the scrum the year had been healthy and full, and that locals kept feeding him extra helpings. Then he went back to work.
Fourteen months later, the return slate is clearer than the Marvel gossip that trailed him out the door. Measure in Love opened in Japan as 僕の一年、君の一日. Tomorrow marks one year since the Asia theatrical open. Cheng Wei-hao’s revenge series sits in post-production for 2027.
Born October 31, 1990, Hsu is already the Someday Or One Day lead who carried Marry My Dead Body to a Golden Horse Best Actor nomination. Korea knew him from the time-travel hit. Japan had already booked him for Michihito Fujii’s 18×2 Beyond Youthful Days. Service still paused everything.
He enlisted in August 2024, trained at Success Ridge, then spent the year in Zhongxing New Village with the Interior Ministry’s substitute-service public-welfare troupe, singing and touring care homes. On discharge day he talked about adapting after a year without sets. In Hong Kong weeks later, promoting the fantasy romance that had been waiting for him, he joked that acting again felt like second employment: familiar, not yet real.
The industry had kept the calendar warm. He still needed time to feel like himself inside it.
The romance that met him at the gate
Measure in Love (他年她日) is Hong Kong director Kung Siu-ping’s feature debut, produced by Sylvia Chang, with Hong Kong actress Angela Yuen opposite Hsu. An earthquake splits the world into zones where a day in one place equals a year in the other. Hsu plays Potato, the boy who grows up waiting. Yuen plays the medical volunteer who ages on a different clock.
The film world-premiered at Busan in September 2025, then opened across Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia on October 3. Even earlier, on August 31, Hsu’s first public music night back was a one-night guest slot with Sunset Rollercoaster at JAM JAM ASIA at Taipei Music Center.
Japan’s September 4, 2026 theatrical window, from Cinemart Shinjuku outward, is quieter proof he still travels. 18×2 already put him on Japanese trains as Jimmy. This Hong Kong-Taiwan co-production puts him back in Japanese rooms under a title that sells the time-gap premise without requiring Mandarin fluency first.
Taiwan’s run was solid for a mid-autumn fantasy, not a Marry My Dead Body stampede. A year later, with Japan still in the window, that Asia open is enough reason to put him on a rising list now. Cross-market theatrical is rarer for Taiwanese male leads than another streaming romance.
What he is filming next
Calendar Studios has The Scammers (詐欺者) listed for 2027: ten episodes of crime, heist, and revenge, directed by Cheng Wei-hao, who already made Hsu a Golden Horse nominee as a reluctant ghost husband. TAICCA’s market sheet has the series in post-production. Cast lists put Hong Kong actress Karena Lam and Taiwanese veteran Tou Chung-hua nearby.
Hsu filmed into late 2025, including Malaysia location work, and talked about the shoot nearing its last mile around Christmas. After a year of care-home stages, genre work is the interesting move. Someday Or One Day made him the first-love export. Measure in Love kept the romance lane warm. Cheng’s con-and-revenge series is where the pause has to show what it did or did not freeze.
A Taiwan-Japan boxing film called Clinch was suspended before cameras rolled in early 2026 after the Taiwanese side rejected the script. Headlines floated China-Japan politics; the production side pointed at the pages. Put that one on hold. The Cheng series is the credit with a year on it.
Taipei Dome, then the rumor
On January 10, 2026, the 40th Golden Disc Awards landed at Taipei Dome. Hsu was a presenter, not the host. He opened in Korean, welcomed the room to Taipei’s food, and joked through a TWS “撒嬌舞” bit with LE SSERAFIM members before handing Naver’s AI Choice trophy to BOYNEXTDOOR.
Someday Or One Day already made him “national boyfriend” copy in Korean entertainment press. No Way Out: The Roulette put him on Disney+ as Mr. Smile, the smiling assassin. Studying Korean during service reads like homework for a market that already knew his name.
He also shut down the Shang-Chi 2 rumor on the Hong Kong Measure junket. No offer, he said. Happy to audition if one ever arrives. Keep that sentence nearby when a headline tries to make Hollywood the only proof of rising.
Brand work kept pace: Fendi menswear ambassador heat before enlistment, then Canada Goose, Uniqlo Greater China, and Nike Greater China after. Those deals fund the pause. They are not the slate.
Hsu already travels. The return year is the recalibration.
Our read: watch the 2027 series, and whatever theatrical he picks after Clinch resets. If those land with the same ease as the Golden Disc Korean, the region will keep using the version of him that showed up after Nantou, Marvel leak or not.
