The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth hosts Anime Fest at the Modern from Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 20, 2026 in the museum auditorium at 3200 Darnell Street. Tickets are $10 per film, or $7 for Modern members, with a discounted weekend pass if you buy the full slate at once.

Anime scholar Dr. Marc Hairston, a Fort Worth native who has programmed the museum’s anime festivals since 2012, introduces the films and takes questions afterward. Friday opens at 7:00 p.m. with Adolescence of Utena (1999). Saturday runs The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006) at noon, ChaO (2025) at 2:00 p.m., and The Last Blossom (2025) at 4:00 p.m. Sunday has Children Who Chase Lost Voices (2011) at 11:30 a.m. and Cocoon: One Summer of Girlhood (2025) at 2:00 p.m.

Two titles carry parental advisories: Adolescence of Utena for adult themes and slight nudity, and Cocoon for depictions of death, violence, and attempted rape. Do not treat the weekend as an all-ages anime market.

Our take: this is the DFW Mid-Autumn weekend pick for people who want Japanese animation on a real screen instead of another outdoor festival loop. Asia Times Square Mid-Autumn runs the same Friday through Sunday in Grand Prairie if your group wants to split film and food.

When: September 18–20, 2026 (see film times above)
Where: Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell Street, Fort Worth, TX

Buy individual tickets or the weekend pass through the Modern’s film calendar before showtime.

Velveting is the Chinese prep step that keeps stir-fry chicken and shrimp tender instead of rubbery: a cornstarch-and-oil coat, a rest, then a quick par-cook before the wok. Here is how it works and why diaspora cooks are finally seeing the name match the method.
