Boston Kimono Festival ran Saturday, August 15, 2026, 1 to 4 p.m., at Highrock Covenant Church, 14 Mill Street, Arlington. Entry was free. Kayo Walsh and Seiko Kitagawa's Boston Kimono Festival Organization produced the afternoon as a fundraiser for children's health research, with Japan Society of Boston among the community partners listed on regional calendars.

The format is a short indoor-outdoor afternoon: Japanese food, vendors, cultural games, and a kimono fashion show with koto at 2:30. The 2026 vendor row included MikoYa, Urasenke Boston, Aethereal Roses, and Nishiki Chopsticks. Most visitors come for the 2:30 runway block; arrive closer to 1 p.m. if you want a seat before the show fills.

Arlington Center is a bus ride or short drive from Cambridge. MBTA Route 77 from Harvard Square is the easy transit path. Parking on Mill Street fills once the fashion show crowd arrives.

Who this was for: kimono collectors, tea ceremony students, and Japan Society members who want a suburban afternoon without driving to New York or DC matsuri scale. Skip it if you need a full street festival; this is a church-grounds cultural fair.

Same Saturday, Lowell Southeast Asian Water Festival was the all-day river outing if you could only pick one. Sunday brought Quincy August Moon for the South Shore street festival.

Our take: stay for the 2:30 show and the tea vendors after. Three hours is enough; pair with Lowell or Quincy only if you accept a packed August weekend.

When: August 15, 2026, 1–4 p.m. (fashion show 2:30 p.m.)
Where: Highrock Covenant Church, 14 Mill St, Arlington, MA 02476

Velveting is the Chinese prep step that keeps stir-fry chicken and shrimp tender instead of rubbery: a cornstarch-and-oil coat, a rest, then a quick par-cook before the wok. Here is how it works and why diaspora cooks are finally seeing the name match the method.
