Bihar and Jharkhand Cultural Association of BC is listing Chhath Puja for Saturday and Sunday, November 14–15, 2026, at Durga Bhameshwari Temple, 7984 123 Street in Surrey. Community coverage puts expected attendance over 1,000, up from roughly 600 last year. Admission is free; donations are appreciated by e-transfer to the association. Planning questions can go to Rajeev Thakur at 604-551-0780 or through bajabc.ca.

Chhath is a four-day Vedic festival centred on the sun, observed widely in Bihar, Jharkhand, and among diaspora families who keep the Arghya offerings. The days move from Nahay Khay and Kharna into Sandhya Arghya at sunset and Usha Arghya at sunrise. For this Surrey weekend, organizers print Sandhya Arghya on November 14 around a 4:52 p.m. sunset time, and Usha Arghya on November 15 around a 7:08 a.m. sunrise time. Treat those clocks as the ritual anchors. Arrive earlier than the printed Arghya if you are helping with setup or bringing offerings. Temple rhythm follows the sun, not a concert door.

This weekend is a temple observance for families marking Chhath after Diwali week. Diwali Fest at Surrey City Hall is Sunday afternoon downtown with a mehfil program and pre-registration. Nikkei Craft Fair is the same weekend in Burnaby. RED FM Diwali Dhamaka was already November 7 at Surrey Civic Plaza. Chhath at Durga Bhameshwari is the ritual calendar pin. Do not stack City Hall's 2:00 p.m. show with a dawn Arghya unless different people in the household are splitting the schedule.

123 Street in Surrey is a drive for most of Metro Vancouver. Parking at temple festivals fills early, so leave extra time, especially Saturday afternoon before Sandhya Arghya. Bring what your family traditionally offers only if organizers confirm the list; call before you pack food that cannot be used on site. BAJA BC frames the weekend as a way for younger generations growing up in British Columbia to learn the observance with their families, away from home but still inside community. Donations keep the weekend free; the association asks for e-transfer support rather than a door ticket.

Who this is for: Bihar and Jharkhand families across Metro Vancouver, and anyone invited into a Chhath weekend who needs the dated Surrey pin. The Arghya hours are the story, so plan sleep and transit around sunset Saturday and sunrise Sunday. Skip it if you needed a ticketed stage show. Diwali Fest Surrey covers that mood Sunday afternoon.

Confirm Arghya timing and any capacity note on bajabc.ca closer to the weekend. Sunrise on the 15th means a very early alarm if Usha Arghya is your half.

When: November 14–15, 2026 (Sandhya Arghya ~4:52 p.m. Sat; Usha Arghya ~7:08 a.m. Sun)
Where: Durga Bhameshwari Temple, 7984 123 St, Surrey, BC
