Diwali Festival of Lights 2026 at Discovery Green
Discovery Green lists its inaugural Diwali Festival of Lights Saturday, November 14, 2026, 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at 1500 McKinney Street downtown. Free. Bollywood lessons with Tx2 Dance Company, performances, henna, shopping, food.
Free admission
Discovery Green is listing its inaugural Diwali Festival of Lights for Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at 1500 McKinney Street in downtown Houston. Admission is free. The park partners with Tx2 Dance Company for Bollywood dance lessons, performances showcasing styles from across India, hands-on henna, cultural shopping, and Indian food from local vendors. A DJ closes the night after the stage sets. RSVP on the Discovery Green Diwali page so organizers can plan capacity, even though the door stays free.
This is the park's first Diwali card in a fall season already stacked with México en el Corazón and Día de los Muertos programming. The Anheuser-Busch Stage faces the downtown skyline near George R. Brown Convention Center, a different energy from a temple courtyard or an Upper Kirby lawn. Leave open flames and personal fireworks at home. Discovery Green will handle the light moments on its own terms. Wear festive clothes if you want; wear walking shoes either way.
The same Saturday, Houston Diwali at Levy Park runs 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. in Upper Kirby with Masala Radio's street-festival format. The two parks are a short drive apart, not a walk. Pick Discovery Green if you want downtown skyline and Bollywood lessons. Pick Levy Park if you want the longer-running Houston Diwali brand and bazaar density. Asia Society Texas Night Market was already Friday, November 6, in the Museum District. BAPS Stafford covered Diwali day itself the previous weekend. If your group insists on both parks that night, choose one primary and treat the other as a maybe.
Downtown parking fills on festival Saturdays. Light rail to Convention District or a rideshare drop on Avenida de las Americas beats circling McKinney. Six hours is the full public window. Families can do dance lessons and henna early, then leave before the DJ half if kids fade. Arrive hungry, because food vendors are part of the pitch and the Grove Market sits on the same campus if lines stall. Tx2 Dance Company is a Houston troupe that teaches Bollywood in an all-ages room, which fits Discovery Green's park brief.
Who this is for: downtown and Museum District families who want a free inaugural park Diwali with dance lessons and skyline staging. It is also the easier first Diwali for mixed households who prefer a civic park over a mandir schedule. Skip it if you needed a temple Chopda Pujan. BAPS and ISKCON already covered that mood on November 8.
RSVP on discoverygreen.com before you go. Confirm any weather note the morning of. Downtown November evenings can turn windy on the open lawn, so bring a layer even if the afternoon feels mild.
When: November 14, 2026 (4:00–10:00 p.m.; free; RSVP requested)
