Anvil Centre is the civic building on Columbia Street, a short walk from New Westminster station on the Expo Line. The museum, the New Media Gallery, and the Lacrosse Hall of Fame inside the building are temporarily closed because of a water leak. The Diwali listing is still on the society's page for Anvil. Do not plan the evening around those closed galleries. Anvil's own Monday hours run until 8:00 p.m., which matches the end of the listing.
Who this is for: New Westminster and Burnaby readers who can do a Monday after work. Diwali itself is Sunday, November 8. This is the night after. Coquitlam is the Thursday before, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cultural Centre. The Roundhouse is the Saturday before that, downtown.
The society describes the night as Festival of Lights programming with a nod to South Asian courtly tradition. It does not publish a set list, a food menu, or a stage map. What you can count on is the clock, the address, and the registration rule. If you are coming from Surrey or Vancouver, the station is the simple arrival. Columbia at 5:30 is the end of the workday.
Our take: register if Monday in New Westminster is the only night you have. If you can do Saturday, the Roundhouse and the Surrey plaza are the fuller plans. This one is the date for people who missed those.
