North York Diwali Fest, the Mel Lastman Square Festival of Lights, is posted for Friday through Sunday, October 23–25, 2026, at 5100 Yonge Street. Admission is free.

The listing promises live performances, workshops, a marketplace, and South Asian food on the civic lawn beside North York Civic Centre. That is the uptown plaza version of Diwali: Yonge and Sheppard, subway at the door, and a family crowd that already treats this square as its summer concert yard.

Daily hours are not safe to publish. The same Mel Lastman Square page still prints October 10, 5 to 10 p.m., and October 11 and 12, noon to 10 p.m. Those dates belong to last year's window. Until the organizer reprints a 2026 clock, treat the weekend as dated and the hours as pending. Do not lock leftover times into your plan.

The organizer on the card is Youth For Change. Contact lines on the page are info@northyorkdiwali.com, plus 416-412-2009 and 437-258-3065. Use those the week of the fest if the hours block still looks like October 10–12.

Nathan Phillips Square's Diwali Festival of Lights runs Saturday and Sunday, October 24–25, noon to 9 p.m. downtown. You cannot honestly do both Saturday nights. Pick the square you can reach, or split Friday uptown if that day stays on the card and Saturday downtown.

RazzMatazz is already finished by then. Mississauga Celebration Square is October 9–11 with city hours locked. North York is the late-October civic option if Peel was your first weekend and you still want a free outdoor stage closer to York Region.

Mel Lastman Square sits on Yonge at the North York Centre station. The lawn is open sky. October evenings drop fast after sunset, and the square listing already flags community supporters rather than a ticket office. Councillor Lily Cheng, MPP Stan Cho, and MP Ali Ehsassi appear as named backers on the 2026 card. That is civic wrapping, not a lineup.

Who this is for: North York and York Region families who want Diwali on Yonge without going downtown. Skip it if you need temple hours and a published ritual clock. Toronto Kalibari in Mississauga posts those times, including Kojagori Lakshmi Puja on October 25.

Bring a layer if you stay after dark. Food lines on this square behave like a summer concert, not a temple bhog queue. Confirm the 2026 hours the week of the fest, either on mlsquare.ca or by emailing the organizer. The page already sells the weekend as family-friendly and free; the missing piece is only the daily clock.

Yonge North York's plaza calendar usually fills with concerts and seasonal fairs through fall. Diwali here reads as the civic lawn edition of that habit: marketplace stalls, stage lights, and a crowd that arrives by subway instead of hunting downtown parking.

Our take: go here if you live north of Eglinton and want the free civic lawn. If you only have one Saturday in late October, downtown's tower show is the louder postcard. Keep the dates. Leave the leftover October 10–12 hours alone until Youth For Change reprints them.

When: October 23–25, 2026 (hours not locked; leftover Oct 10–12 times on the listing)
Where: Mel Lastman Square, 5100 Yonge St, North York, ON M2N 5V7
