Oita Japan Summer Festival 2026 in Austin

The 11th Oita Japan Festival runs Sunday, August 30, 2026 at the Long Center, 701 W. Riverside Drive. Doors open at 11 a.m. Programming runs noon to 5 p.m.

Austin-Oita Sister City Committee hosts it as a family day for Austin's Japanese sister city, Oita. Advance tickets are $25 for ages 13 and up, and $20 for children 3–12, seniors 65+, and students. Buy before you go. Sets can still shuffle a little.

Dell Hall opens with Austin Taiko, then student dance from Oita's Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Okinawan dance, a kimono fashion block, and Dark Circle Sumo. Rollins Theatre is the quieter room: tea ceremony, kendo, judo, iaijutsu, and karate, plus a late Japanese business seminar from the Greater Austin Asian Chamber.

Hands-on tables are why you bring kids. Matcha whisking, shodo, origami, kendama, suminagashi, and a model-train table. Food and shops include Kinokuniya, Aburi Oshi Sushi, and Kuru Kuru Japanese Street Foods.
