Association of Indo Americans hosts Swades on Saturday, August 15, 2026, 3 to 11 p.m., at Plaza de Cesar Chavez in downtown San Jose. Entry is free. They ask you to register so they can count heads.

This year marks 80 years of Indian independence, which is why the parade and patriotic sets are the center of the night. Expect live dance and music, Indian food vendors, and a late finish. They have also promised fireworks. It is a downtown plaza, so you can eat, watch a set, and walk to San Pedro Square if the park gets tight.

VTA light rail to Convention Center or a downtown garage is kinder than circling Market Street after 5. Bring a layer. August nights in the South Bay cool off once the sun drops behind the high-rises.

If you want the full daytime mela with a kids' zone, FOG in Fremont runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the same weekend. Swades is the night parade.

When: August 15, 2026, 3–11 p.m.
Where: Plaza de Cesar Chavez, Downtown San Jose, CA
