McDonald's just put G-Dragon on a gochujang butter Asia campaign
Korea McDonald's named G-Dragon the face of a gochujang butter campaign across 13 Asian markets, starting September 17 in Korea with McCrispy and McSpicy builds plus PEACEMINUSONE merch later this month.

McDonald's is selling Korean heat with G-Dragon's face on it.
On September 9, Korea McDonald's said the singer will lead a campaign across 13 Asian markets, starting in Korea on September 17. The shared ingredient is gochujang butter sauce developed by the Korean market.
In Korea the builds are McCrispy Gochujang Butter and McSpicy Gochujang Butter: different chicken patties, Colby Jack, and the sauce also sold as a dip.
Our read: Seoul planned the sauce and the Asia rollout. G-Dragon is there to make both travel.
What ships on the 17th
Kwon Ji-yong, known as G-Dragon, was born August 18, 1988. He leads BIGBANG under YG Entertainment and runs the fashion label PEACEMINUSONE, launched in 2016 with longtime stylist Gee Eun.
He also holds a Chanel global fashion seat. A McDonald's pin on that lapel still reads as Soft Power.
Korea McDonald's called the pairing two icons meeting. The campaign rolls market by market after the Korean launch.
China, Vietnam, and Indonesia are among the markets named so far. All 13 use the Korean-developed gochujang butter as the motif. Some will put the word "gochujang" in the menu name. Japan is not on the list.
Later this month, limited merch with PEACEMINUSONE arrives. Details are still under wraps. The daisy logo already showed up in a McDonald's Singapore Instagram teaser the same day as the Korean announcement.
After the BTS Meal
McDonald's already proved K-pop can move chicken. The 2021 BTS Meal was a Famous Orders play: a known set dressed in fandom packaging across dozens of countries, with sauces inspired by Korea. Fans did the distribution work.
This campaign puts Korea McDonald's in the planner seat. The sauce came from Seoul. The board can say gochujang in public.
That matters beyond the bag. Gochujang already sits in more North American grocery aisles than it did a decade ago. A McDonald's Asia window that keeps the word on the menu is the mass version of that shelf shift.
Our take
Watch September 17 in Korea first: whether the McCrispy and McSpicy builds clear the lunch rush. Then watch whether the PEACEMINUSONE drop feels like a real collab.
Our take: the receipt worth keeping is Korea leading an Asia menu wave with a Korean sauce and a Korean icon. If the other twelve markets keep "gochujang" on the nameplate, Soft Power shows up in a bag. Until those boards post, the headline is enough. McDonald's just made G-Dragon the face of Korean heat across Asia.
