Chai Pani Decatur Diwali Festival 2026
Chai Pani Decatur lists a public Diwali festival Sunday, November 8, 2026, 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at 406 West Ponce de Leon Avenue. Food and drink specials, DJ, vendors, henna, dusk fireworks, cookbook signing with Meherwan Irani.
Chai Pani Decatur is listing a public Diwali festival for Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at 406 West Ponce de Leon Avenue. The restaurant frames food and drink specials inside and out, DJ Siddarth Kelam, a Diwali photobooth, live pani puri, complimentary henna, and specialty vendors including Raani Coffee Roasters ATL, GOAP, PODI life, and South Indian Pantry. Fireworks from Daniel Peach kick off around dusk. James Beard Award-winning chef and Chai Pani co-owner Meherwan Irani is expected with copies of his debut cookbook, No. 1 Best Indian Cookbook in the World, for signing. The night is public. RSVPs help on busy community listings, and dine-in turns are limited to about an hour beside vegetarian specials and the usual card.
The lot stays clear for vendors and fireworks, so rideshare or street parking is the practical plan. West Ponce in Decatur is intown Atlanta, closer to Emory and downtown than to Gwinnett or North Fulton. Arrive hungry if the street-food half is why you came. Arrive before dusk if fireworks are the close. Bring cash and a card for vendors, and a bag if you plan to leave with a signed cookbook. Six hours is a long restaurant block; plan a vendor lap and a fireworks stand rather than holding one table the whole night.
Johns Creek Diwali was Saturday at the Boardwalk with a 7:00 p.m. drone show. Norcross Night Market ran Friday and Saturday at Lillian Webb Park. Sanatan Mandir Atlanta holds Chopda Pujan and temple fireworks the same Sunday evening in Smyrna. Dunwoody was already on the civic calendar Saturday. Chai Pani is the intown restaurant mela if you want Decatur street energy and a chef cookbook table instead of a suburban park stage. You can do temple Chopda earlier in Smyrna and still try for dusk fireworks on Ponce only if different people in the household are splitting cars.
Who this is for: Decatur and intown Atlanta families who want a restaurant-led Diwali with fireworks and vendors on the holiday itself, including cookbook fans who will actually wait for a signing. Skip it if you needed a free civic drone show. Johns Creek already ran that Saturday. Skip it if you needed Chopda Pujan. Sanatan Mandir covers that the same night in Smyrna.
Confirm any RSVP note on chaipani.com closer to November 8. Do not park in the vendor lot. Set a meet point on Ponce before the block fills at dusk. If the cookbook line is long, grab vendors first and loop back before Irani packs up.
When: November 8, 2026 (4:00–10:00 p.m.; fireworks around dusk)
Where: Chai Pani Decatur, 406 W Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur, GA 30030

Velveting, explained as a Chinese kitchen technique
Velveting is the Chinese prep step that keeps stir-fry chicken and shrimp tender instead of rubbery: a cornstarch-and-oil coat, a rest, then a quick par-cook before the wok. Here is how it works and why diaspora cooks are finally seeing the name match the method.
