Sanatan Mandir Atlanta is listing Diwali festivities from Friday, November 6, through Monday, November 9, 2026, at 1281 Cooper Lake Road SE in Smyrna. The temple stays open 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. each of those days. Admission to the mandir program is free; sponsorship tiers are posted for households who want to underwrite specific sevas.

Friday, November 6, is Dhan Teras from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., with Mangal Deep Puja, Shree Chakra Puja, Lalita Sahasranama kumkum archana, and Dhanvantari prarthana, then aarti and mahaprasad. Saturday, November 7, is Kali Chaudas and Chhoti Diwali: Hanuman Chalisa sankalp through the afternoon, Navagraha and Hanuman Tailabhishek with sindoor seva into the evening, and aarti with mahaprasad at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 8, is Diwali Chopda and Sharda Pujan from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., then mangal aarti, fireworks, and mahaprasad at 7:00 p.m. The temple bans outside fireworks under city ordinance. Monday, November 9, is Annakut and Govardhan, with morning Ganapati and Govardhan Puja and evening bhajan, Annakut darshan, aarti, and mahaprasad from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

For Chopda Pujan, the temple provides samagri and asks devotees to bring Ganesh, Lakshmi, account books, and a red pen. Annakut questions can go to the contacts posted on the temple page, including Madhavi Dave at 770-617-3451. Treat Sunday evening as the fireworks Diwali pin and Monday evening as the Annakut close if your household is splitting days. Four days is a lot of temple time; many households pick those two anchors and leave the weekday pujas for people keeping the full vrata.

Smyrna sits west of midtown Atlanta, a different drive from Johns Creek, Norcross, and Decatur. Cooper Lake Road is a temple-parking problem on festival evenings, so leave earlier than a midtown map estimate suggests. Johns Creek was Saturday at the Boardwalk. Chai Pani Decatur is the same Sunday as restaurant fireworks on Ponce. GSONA Alpharetta is the following Saturday at Hotel Avalon. Do Sanatan Mandir if you want dated temple Chopda Pujan and Annakut. Do Decatur if you want a public restaurant mela the same Diwali night.

Who this is for: metro Atlanta families who mark Diwali at Sanatan Mandir and need the Smyrna schedule for Dhan Teras through Annakut. Skip it if you needed a free civic market. Johns Creek and Norcross already covered that mood over the weekend.

Arrive before 5:00 Sunday if Chopda Pujan is why you came. Leave personal fireworks at home. Sponsorship lines for anna daan, chopda, and fireworks are posted if your family wants to underwrite a seva. Confirm any last timing note on sanatanmandiratlanta.org.

Velveting, explained as a Chinese kitchen technique

Velveting is the Chinese prep step that keeps stir-fry chicken and shrimp tender instead of rubbery: a cornstarch-and-oil coat, a rest, then a quick par-cook before the wok. Here is how it works and why diaspora cooks are finally seeing the name match the method.
