Weekend Stream: East Palace drop weekend, then Spooky

July 17 finally arrived. The East Palace is live on Netflix with all eight episodes, Nam Joo-hyuk's first Korean series since his September 2024 discharge, and the ghost-rom-com counterprogram starts tomorrow. Here is the finished mid-July queue.

Friday: clear the palace in one sitting

Start with The East Palace (Donggung). Eight episodes, roughly 46 to 59 minutes each, all dropped July 17. Nam Joo-hyuk plays Gu-cheon, a spirit slayer who crosses into the Realm of Gwi with a blade that can cut ghosts. Roh Yoon-seo, coming off Crash Course in Romance and 20th Century Girl, plays court lady Saeng-gang, who hears the dead. Cho Seung-woo plays the king who summons them after a pond spirit curse starts eating through the royal bloodline again.

Writers Kwon So-ra and Seo Jae-won previously built occult worlds in The Guest and Bulgasal: Immortal Souls. Director Choi Jung-kyu made The Devil Judge. If you liked Nam in Twenty-Five Twenty-One, expect a colder register: wet hair, red spirit realms, palace politics with a deadline. Practical plan: open Friday night and finish Saturday afternoon if you need sleep. Eight episodes make this a real binge, so do not start at midnight unless the weekend is already spoken for.

Saturday: gloves, ghosts, softer stakes

Spooky in Love (오싹한 연애) premieres July 18 at 21:10 KST on tvN, with Netflix streaming outside Korea. Twelve episodes run Saturday and Sunday through August 23, about 70 minutes each.

Park Eun-bin plays Cheon Yeo-ri, a hotel heiress who sees the dead and, in this remake's twist, can pass that vision through touch. Yang Se-jong plays prosecutor Ma Gang-uk, sharp on cold cases and useless around spirits. Ong Seong-wu joins as rival hotel heir Kang Min-hwan. Director Lee Min-soo and writer Choi Jung-mi are adapting the 2011 film Spellbound (Son Ye-jin, Lee Min-ki), keeping the ghost-sight romance while expanding murder-case machinery and changing the male lead from magician to prosecutor.

Start episode one Saturday if East Palace emptied your tank, then return for episode two Sunday. The tone is warmer than the palace curse, and Park can carry a weekend on chemistry alone.

Appointment hold: Agent Kim is still climbing

If you are already mid-Agent Kim Reactivated, do not drop it for the premiere pile. Episode 6 hit 22.3 percent nationwide (Nielsen Korea), second only to Penthouse 2 among SBS Friday-Saturday dramas, and the series has held Netflix's global non-English No. 1 for consecutive weeks. So Ji-sub plays retired covert agent Kim Do-hyeon as a father first. SBS airs two episodes Friday and Saturday; Netflix drops the same pair weekly abroad.

Bookmark before Monday

Wild Sing hits Netflix July 30 PT / July 31 KST: Gang Dong-won, Um Tae-goo, Park Ji-hyun, and Oh Jung-se in a Y2K co-ed idol reunion comedy, with 32 subtitle languages and 15 dubs after about 1.3 million Korean theatrical admissions. Save it for a lighter late-July night.
