Boston Korea is listing a free Korean Jeong culture festival for Saturday, November 7, 2026, starting at 5:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 65 Binney Street in Cambridge. The hall sits about a ten-minute walk from Kendall/MIT on the Red Line. Free parking is listed in the building or nearby. Contact on the post is Elder Lee at 617-961-2960.

The evening is framed around jeong, the Korean idea of warm connection, with food and hands-on stations rather than a ticketed concert. The listing names K-pop dance and taekwondo demos, gimbap-making for the first 100 people, pottery, origami, hanbok try-on, Hangul name writing, taegeukgi coloring, traditional games and instruments, and a Korean meal line that includes bulgogi, jeyuk, japchae, mandu, kimchi, rice, patbingsu, and bungeoppang. Treat the menu as the posted plan. Portions and sellout rules will be clearer at the door. The Kendall Square setting puts MIT students and Korean families in the same room for an evening that still feels like a community hall, not a downtown festival plaza.

Sponsors named on the Boston Korea card include Seoul Tteokbokki, Gangnam Spice, Boston Edu Nova, the Massachusetts Taekwondo Association, and several individual underwriters. Local restaurants and the taekwondo association are underwriting a free night. That keeps the door open without an Eventbrite upsell.

The same Saturday, Loy Krathong fills Brattle Street from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. Harvard Square and Kendall are one Red Line stop apart. You can taste Thai street food earlier and walk or ride to Binney for 5:00 if you move before the evening crowd locks both nodes. Quincy Library Diwali is 1:00 to 2:30 the same day on the South Shore. That is a different metro leg entirely. BAPS Boston and VYO Lowell hold Sunday for temple and haveli nights.

Who this is for: Korean families and MIT-area neighbors who want a free indoor culture night with a meal. Skip it if you only wanted an outdoor market. Brattle Street already covers that weather gamble.

Arrive near 5:00 if gimbap-making matters; first 100 is a hard line on the flyer. Modest church-building manners apply. Confirm any last change by phone before you cross the river.

When: November 7, 2026 (from 5:00 p.m.)
Where: 65 Binney St, Cambridge, MA 02142

Why Southeast Asian film hasn't had its K-drama moment yet

Thai, Indonesian, and Vietnamese films are smashing local box offices, and Netflix is greenlighting Southeast Asia faster than ever. The K-drama moment still has not arrived because the region is many languages, theatrical-first, and horror-shaped, not one serialized export machine.

Velveting, explained as a Chinese kitchen technique

Velveting is the Chinese prep step that keeps stir-fry chicken and shrimp tender instead of rubbery: a cornstarch-and-oil coat, a rest, then a quick par-cook before the wok. Here is how it works and why diaspora cooks are finally seeing the name match the method.
