Atlanta food works when you leave Midtown and commit to Buford Highway, then Gwinnett. This is plaza parking, not a downtown Chinatown stroll. Chamblee and Doraville hold the highway density: Vietnamese bánh mì, Sichuan noodles, Korean BBQ, Taiwanese plates, and the Buford Highway Farmers Market grocery run. Duluth is Korean Gwinnett around Pleasant Hill and Gwinnett Place. Norcross is South Asian at Global Mall. Pick one corridor. Neighborhoods to know
Buford Highway / Chamblee / Doraville
Buford Highway (Georgia 13) is the immigrant corridor that made Atlanta's international table famous: a long strip of plazas from inside DeKalb out toward Gwinnett. Korean grocers and restaurants clustered here in the 1980s. Vietnamese, Chinese, Mexican, and Central American businesses filled the same cheap leases. You do not walk "the whole highway." You pick one plaza, park once, and eat. MARTA Gold Line to Chamblee or Doraville is the rail assist. Plaza Fiesta sits on the same corridor as Latino density. Treat it as a neighbor, not your first Goldscene meal stop.
Atlanta Chinatown Square (Chamblee)
Atlanta Chinatown Square at 5383 New Peachtree Road opened in 1988 as a Chinese commercial center, just off Buford Highway near Chamblee Station. Guardian lions mark the entrance. Inside: a courtyard garden, food court, supermarket, bookstore, and service shops. It is a suburban plaza with a Chinese courtyard, not San Francisco's Grant Avenue. Come for orientation and a food-court lunch. Do not expect highway-length density here.
Asian Square / Super H Mart (Doraville)
Asian Square at 5150 Buford Highway is the Doraville plaza stack: bánh mì, Malaysian, Taiwanese, Filipino kamayan, Cantonese BBQ, and Sweet Hut bakery in one lot. Super H Mart at 6035 Peachtree Road is the giant Korean supermarket with a food-court wing that turns a grocery run into lunch. Yet Tuh hides on Oakcliff behind the highway frontage. Woo Nam Jeong and Hae Woon Dae sit back on Buford for stone-pot rice and late charcoal BBQ. This is the strongest first-timer half-day.
Duluth / Pleasant Hill / Gwinnett Place
Korean Atlanta moved north. Pleasant Hill Road around H Mart (2550 Pleasant Hill Rd) is today's Gwinnett Koreatown: BBQ, stews, bakeries, and banchan in Park Village and neighboring plazas. Nam Dae Mun Farmers Market on Shackleford and Great Wall on Pleasant Hill cover the bigger grocery haul. Gwinnett Place Mall (2100 Pleasant Hill Rd) hosts Korean Festival. Gas South Convention Center (6400 Sugarloaf Pkwy) hosts JapanFest. City Farmers Market at 1630 Pleasant Hill stacks Filipino plates and a Duluth Lee's Bakery. Udipi Cafe on Peachtree Industrial is the long-running vegetarian South Indian room.
Norcross / Global Mall
Global Mall at 5675 Jimmy Carter Boulevard, at I-85, is the indoor South Asian retail center: clothing, jewelry, temples, banquet space, and a food court plus full-service Ashiana. Global Mela lands here. This is a mall day, not a Buford Highway add-on after three plazas. Patel Brothers also sits on Pleasant Hill in Duluth and on Church Street in Decatur if you only need groceries.
Johns Creek / Suwanee / Lawrenceville (overflow)
Johns Creek and Suwanee continue Korean BBQ north (ARI on Medlock Bridge, 770 BBQ in Suwanee). Lawrenceville holds Indian rooms and the downtown lawn night market. Save them for a second night or a festival weekend. Do not stack Buford Highway, Duluth, and Lawrenceville before dinner.

Buford Highway grocery starts at Buford Highway Farmers Market (5600 Buford Hwy NE, Doraville). Korean supermarket gravity is Super H Mart (6035 Peachtree Rd, Doraville) and H Mart Duluth (2550 Pleasant Hill Rd). Nam Dae Mun Farmers Market (3825 Shackleford Rd, Duluth) and Great Wall Supermarket (2300 Pleasant Hill Rd, Duluth) cover the wider Gwinnett haul.
