Vancouver's Asian food day works when you pick one corridor and commit. Expo Line Stadium–Chinatown covers the gate and a short walk to Powell Street. Canada Line owns Richmond. Kingsway is bus or car strip-mall density, not a Chinatown add-on after dim sum. Use this page for neighborhoods and meal starts. For Powell Street Festival, Richmond Night Market, and one-offs, keep the Vancouver metro calendar open in another tab. That list moves; this guide does not.

Neighborhoods to know

Chinatown (Pender / Keefer / Georgia)

Millennium Gate on Pender at Taylor is the orientation point. Expo Line Stadium–Chinatown drops you a short walk west of the gate. Expect BBQ windows on East Pender, bakeries, all-day dim sum, and East Georgia's Cambodian-Vietnamese institution energy. Floata's 2025 exit left a banquet-hall hole in the historic core, so Jade Dynasty is the practical dine-in dim sum fix; larger halls largely moved to Richmond. Weekend parkades fill fast.

Powell Street / Japantown remnant

Powell Street around Oppenheimer Park is the historic Japanese Canadian commercial core (Paueru Gai), emptied by wartime internment and never fully restored as a restaurant strip. Treat it as a short reflective add-on to Chinatown or its own half-loop: one meal anchor, festival geography on the calendar, and Fujiya's Clark Drive grocery lineage. Stay on main blocks and keep valuables tight.

Kingsway (East Van / Burnaby edge)

Kingsway from East Vancouver into Burnaby is strip-mall Vietnamese, Korean, and Sichuan density. Bus works; car or rideshare is the honest way to hop plazas. This is Annandale / Hwy 99 logistics: one or two sit-downs plus a grocery stop, not a walking gate loop. Metrotown sits at the east end if you want T&T or Crystal Mall as a Burnaby afternoon, not a Richmond stack-on.

Richmond Golden Village (Aberdeen / No. 3 Road)

No. 3 Road around Aberdeen, Yaohan, Parker Place, and Empire Centre is Metro Vancouver's densest destination Chinese eating. Canada Line Aberdeen Station walks into Aberdeen Centre. Commit a half-day for food-court theater, cart dim sum, and BBQ. Do not treat this as a quick add-on after a full Chinatown morning.

Richmond Public Market belt

Richmond Public Market at 8260 Westminster Highway is the second Richmond pocket: groceries downstairs, Asian food court upstairs. Canada Line Bridgeport or Richmond–Brighouse gets you close. Better as Golden Village morning then Public Market afternoon, or Public Market alone. Crystal Mall is Burnaby Metrotown geography (Expo Line), not Richmond.

Where to eat

Chinatown

Chinatown BBQ (130 E Pender St): Cantonese roast meats with a family-run window and dine-in.
New Town Bakery & Restaurant (148 E Pender St): since 1980 for steamed buns, apple tarts, and early bakery energy.
Jade Dynasty Restaurant (137 E Pender St): all-day dim sum and Cantonese after Floata's exit; confirm Tuesday hours.
Phnom Penh Restaurant (244 E Georgia St): Cambodian-Vietnamese institution for butter beef and wings.

Powell Street

Dosanko Restaurant (566 Powell St Unit 100): yoshoku comfort (omurice, katsu sando) as the corridor's durable meal start.
Pair a Japanese pantry stop at Fujiya on Clark Drive rather than inventing a multi-restaurant Japantown crawl that no longer exists.

Kingsway

Kingsway Deli (1188 Kingsway): Vietnamese deli, bánh mì, and bun bo hue reputation.
Cafe Xu Hue (2226 Kingsway): bun bo hue destination; often cash-friendly.
Ganh Vietnamese Kitchen (2568 Kingsway): pho, bun bo hue, and com tam.
Shilla Korean Restaurant (1031 Kingsway): Korean comfort and fried chicken.
ChongQing Restaurant (4909 Kingsway, Burnaby): long-running Sichuan on the Burnaby stretch if you are already driving east.

Richmond Golden Village

Aberdeen Centre Food Court (4151 Hazelbridge Way): thirty-plus stalls as the first-timer default off Canada Line Aberdeen.
Fisherman's Terrace Seafood Restaurant (Suite 3580, Aberdeen Centre): cart-style dim sum hall inside the mall.
Chef Tony Seafood Restaurant (Unit 101, 4600 No. 3 Rd): destination Cantonese and creative dim sum at Empire Centre.
HK BBQ Master (Suite 145, 4651 No. 3 Rd): cult Cantonese BBQ under Superstore; confirm Wednesday hours and cash/debit norms.

Richmond Public Market

Orient around Richmond Public Market (8260 Westminster Hwy). The upstairs food court is the meal: Taiwanese, Sichuan, Xi'an, and HK stalls that run cash-heavy. Keep this pocket separate from a full Aberdeen morning unless you have a full day.

Markets and errands

Chinatown's Dollar Meat Store (266 E Pender St) covers legacy BBQ and cured meats; Maxim's Bakery (257 Keefer St) handles HK pastry and pantry. Powell lineage grocery lives at Fujiya (912 Clark Dr). Kingsway east ends naturally at T&T Supermarket Metrotown (Unit 147, 4800 Kingsway, Burnaby) if you are already Burnaby-bound. Golden Village shops at Osaka / T&T inside Yaohan Centre (1000-3700 No. 3 Rd) plus Parker Place produce vendors. Richmond Public Market's ground floor is the second Richmond pantry haul. Do markets before dinner rush if you are stocking a hotel fridge.

Sample days

Chinatown core: Stadium–Chinatown to Millennium Gate, Chinatown BBQ or Jade Dynasty, New Town pastry, optional Phnom Penh, optional Powell walk to Dosanko.
Kingsway strip: bus or car for Kingsway Deli or Cafe Xu Hue plus Shilla; T&T Metrotown if Burnaby-bound.
Canada Line Richmond half-day: Aberdeen food court or Fisherman's Terrace, Chef Tony or HK BBQ Master, Osaka/Yaohan haul.
Second Richmond: Public Market groceries and upstairs meal; do not also do full Chinatown that morning.
Optional Burnaby: Expo Line Metrotown for Crystal Mall (4500 Kingsway) only if you are already east, not as a Richmond add-on.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find Vancouver festival and night-market dates?
Use the Vancouver metro calendar. This guide stays on neighborhoods and food so you are not chasing outdated date tables.
Can I do this on SkyTrain alone?
Chinatown and Powell Street work from Expo Line Stadium–Chinatown. Richmond Golden Village and Public Market work on Canada Line. Kingsway is bus or car strip-mall density for most visitors.
Is downtown Chinatown enough for a food trip?
For a short lunch loop, yes. For denser Cantonese banquet energy, plan Richmond. For Vietnamese and Korean strip density, plan Kingsway as its own half-day.
Are these ranked restaurant reviews?
No. They are durable starting points with addresses. Confirm hours and cash-versus-card norms before you go.
