Calgary's Asian food day works when you respect two gears. Downtown Chinatown is compact and walkable: Chinese Cultural Centre, Dragon City Mall, dim sum rooms, and bánh mì counters along Centre Street and the Bow. The rest of the map is corridor and plaza math. International Avenue (17 Avenue SE) holds Vietnamese and Filipino density in Forest Lawn. Pacific Place on 36 Street NE is the T&T-anchored Northeast half-day. Heritage Meadows covers the south-side grocery run. Temple, Whitehorn, and Saddle Ridge stretch South Asian rooms farther northeast. Neighborhoods to know
Chinatown / Centre Street (downtown core)
Calgary's Chinatown sits along Centre Street at the southeast edge of downtown, west of East Village and hard against the Bow River pathway at Sien Lok Park. The Chinese Cultural Centre (styled after Beijing's Temple of Heaven) is the landmark, with museum exhibits downstairs and banquet energy upstairs. Dragon City Mall at 328 Centre Street SE is the two-level indoor hop for snacks, Korean home-cooking counters, and festival market weekends. Silver Dragon has been serving Cantonese and Sichuan since 1966. This is the one corridor you can do on foot after a CTrain drop near City Hall.
Centre Street North (second Chinatown stretch)
North of the river along Centre Street, Asian storefronts keep going for several blocks. Locals treat it as a second Chinatown lane more than a tourist gate. Use it when you want Korean BBQ or Chinese rooms without stacking a full Dragon City morning first.
International Avenue / Forest Lawn (17 Avenue SE)
Forest Lawn's International Avenue is Calgary's multiethnic strip: Vietnamese, Filipino, Ethiopian, Caribbean, and more in family-run rooms. Little Saigon Towne Square near 49th Street holds Pho Dau Bo. Pacific Hut anchors Filipino plates and bakery. Bánh mì counters and phở shops fill the gaps. It is drive-and-park authenticity, not a downtown add-on.
Pacific Place / 36 Street NE (T&T + Korean plaza)
Pacific Place Mall at 999 36 Street NE is Northeast Calgary's Asian plaza half-day, anchored by T&T Supermarket with Korean BBQ and specialty shops upstairs and beside. Yum Yum BBQ and Hot Million Indian sit in the same Deerfoot / 36 Street commercial math. Do not stack this after a full International Avenue morning unless you enjoy Deerfoot traffic.
Temple / Whitehorn / Saddle Ridge (South Asian northeast)
Farther northeast, Temple Drive, Sunridge, and Skyview Ranch / Saddle Ridge hold Indian restaurants, sweets shops, and Hakka Chinese rooms that serve the same neighborhoods hosting Onam and Navratri weekends. India Restaurant & Sweet Shop on Temple Drive and Dumka near Sunridge are durable starts. Orient here when the metro calendar sends you northeast.
Heritage Meadows / Deerfoot Meadows (south grocery)
T&T's second Calgary store at 25 Heritage Meadows Way SE covers south-side Chinese and pan-Asian pantry runs near Deerfoot Meadows. Pair with a Macleod Trail bánh mì stop if you are already south; skip stacking Chinatown and Heritage Meadows before dinner.
Beltline / 17 Avenue SW (date-night lane)
When you want a reservation night after a corridor day, Paper Lantern's Chinatown basement does Vietnamese cocktails and kitchen plates. South of downtown on Macleod Trail, To Me Vietnamese Sub is Calgary's drive-thru bánh mì stunt for the car. Treat these as night or transit glue, not a substitute for International Avenue density.
